CPG has been contracted by the Christchurch City Council (CCC) to evaluate a number of existing water treatment sites with a view to upgrading them to meet current Drinking Water Standards (DWS) and future peak flow demands.

The scope of design covers abstraction (surface/groundwater), treatment (for bacterial, protozoal and chemical compliance), storage, reticulation, automation and controls, consenting, building and civil works.  CPG is currently preparing detailed designs for the upgrade of these water treatment plants with construction planned for 2009 / 2010.

In addition CPG is currently investigating the yield and sustainability of a bore for the potential use as a water supply bore for the CCC.  This project includes developing an aquifer test programme based on the hydrogeological setting and bore data, undertaking aquifer testing, sampling of groundwater to ensure water quality meets DWS, analysis and interpretation of aquifer test data, and reporting of findings to the City Council.  If the bore is suitable, CPG will assess effects and apply for resource consent to take groundwater from the Regional Council.  CPG will also undertake the detailed design of the supply network including well head works, pump and pipe sizes, the design of the pump housing and the controls.

Other projects being managed by CPG for CCC include the design and installation of secure wellhead chambers and the reactive replacement of bore pumps, piping and headworks.
