The harbour redevelopment was an ORC 150th anniversary commemorative project to reinstate an old working wharf as a “peoples” wharf where people could go and enjoy themselves.

The area had been a dilapidated timber wharf with old cement silo foundations and makeshift buildings. As part of the redevelopment, a 50m long new timber wharf was installed to provide berthing space for harbour launches as well as a 150m long split level concrete wharf to provide recreational facilities.

The historic Customs House building was also saved following repair work to the foundation piles and beams. The wharf is backed by a lit promenade, garden, band platform, public toilets and carparks.
