Following the award winning design of the tourist facilities in 1988, CPG were asked to upgrade the berths for the larger vessels using the harbour.
Milford Sound is an area of national significance and the increasing number of tourists that the location attracts required the redevelopment of the facilities to make the harbour suitable for larger vessels and greater passenger numbers.
The upgrade incorporated realignment and replacement of berths suitable designed to match the vessels coming alongside. In addition, new berthing dolphins, fendering systems and deepening of the channel entrance were undertaken to increase safety and accessibility of the harbour.
The work included feasability and options study, design of new facilities and channel, resource and building consents, contract management and scientific monitoring.
